Population of Oracle Changes
By: rekha singh | 05 Feb 2010 4:33 pm
We are trying to determine a way to identify application configuration changes and database changes that have been made to our Oracle application….this is associated with our Sarbanes testing. Anyone have any tools or suggestions? We are trying to validate that all changes are going through our change management process and in order to do this we want to sample from the application back to the change process. Comments
I utilize the Oracle GCR (Configuration Governor) to identify the population of Oracle configuration changes that occur. FYI, you have to configure the tool to audit those configurations you want.We currently monitor apx. 1200 Oracle configuration fields to accomplish this.

The only way to create a sufficient audit trail is through the use of a trigger or log based solution. There are many in the marketplace from various vendors, including a couple of options from Oracle. Each of the tools are unique in many respects. Any discussion in an email would not do the issue justice. I cover most of the tools in the space (as an analyst) and would be happy to schedule a call to discuss them (free call as part of my free hour of consulting offer). Email me directly, if you want to schedule a call.
