Difference between Oracle Financials and Oracle APEX

By: rekha singh | 29 Apr 2010 1:36 pm

There is a difference between Oracle Financials and Oracle APEX.

APEX is normally a rapid development tool to convert existing applications such as Spreadsheets into web based applications. Also, it is used to develop scratch applications for small number of users, and it is totally free.

Oracle Financials is an ERP, normally used ... See Morefor large organisations and it is license based. Implementation Oracle financials require a methodology for the implementation, with different phases and the collaboration of different stakeholders.

Hence, we can't compare APEX and oracle financials as they are implemented in different business context.

Comments

APEX is scalable... it's not only for a small amount of users.

APEX is a "no cost option" like PL/SQL... it's not really free (you pay for it in your license fees). You can download a free version of Oracle XE which include APEX.
APEX is a good option for converting FORMS, MS Excell, MS Access applications.
APEX can be use to develop mission critical applications.

APEX is a great tool : in my company a single developer built a professional application to handle an HR datamart in less than 2 weeks with complete customer satisfaction.

Oracle Apex and Oracle Financial are integrated parts of the entire Oracle package offered, mind you.

Apex is fantastic for what it is intended to be (and it actually surprises in what it can do). It's not Oracle EBS, etc. but for doing a browser-based front-end applcation quickly, it's wonderful. We've knocked out a lot of "hey we need a little app for the <insert department name here> office to..." applications with Apex. We even used it for .an interim solution for an online university class registration system with hundreds of students pounding on it at once to register for classes during their allocated time windows and it handled it with ease.
